Here is a summary of the weekend from host and organizer, Coach Jeff Melville: The inaugural 2014 OHSLA/Nike All Star Games of Oregon in Sisters were a tremendous success. We hosted 5 teams representing the High Desert, Midwestern, North Valley, Pacific, and Columbia Conferences. The teams rolled into Sisters on Saturday morning to crisp and clear skies, perfect for Lacrosse. It was a long and enjoyable day on Saturday as some of our warriors played 4 games of 12 minute running time quarters. There were plenty of parents and fans to cheer the All Stars on and the games were exciting to watch. Thanks to Bill Daye of Nike Lacrosse the All Stars looked fantastic in their reversible jerseys. The day ended with a round of 5:30 games, and a group dinner in the commons at Sisters HS. The All Stars were treated to a wonderful lasagna dinner with all the trimmings courtesy of the Sisters HS staff. Many of the All Stars elected to spend the night with their parents, but the true hard cores spent the night in the tents/yurts outside Sisters HS. It was a cold night down in the high 30's. Several pickup tennis ball games were played before dark, and then a campfire was enjoyed by those that didn't pass out from exhaustion at 10pm. Those Newberg boys know how to build a good fire!
Another crisp and bright morning on Sunday, the overnighters were treated to a scrambled egg, biscuit, sausage, and fruit breakfast to start their day. The All Stars were a little sluggish but the 9am game featured Midwestern Conference vs. Pacific Conference in the Sisters HS stadium. Both teams were 2-1 on Saturday and they played an excellent game, with the MW team emerging victorious. One of the highlights of the weekend was the final game on Sunday. We played a "sticks in a pile" game with members of the High Desert, North Valley, and Columbia All Star teams. It was a great game to watch, quite a Kaleidoscope of colors. The officials were in rare form, and we had a fantastic time. We would like to thank your officials for the weekend, Chris Davis, Tom Hoffert, Craig Poole, TJ Vander Velde, Jacob Bak, Matt Smith, and Dave Curfew. The 2014 OHSLA/Nike All Star Games were not a championship endeavor, but a friendly tournament, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I had literally dozens of boys ask if we could do it again next year.

Although a champion was not crowned and no awards were given (this was a friendly/festival tourney). We did award the Sportsmanship award to Dennis Sullivan. He showed up on Saturday with only 8 players, and no goalie, after some boys defected at the last minute. Sulli made the best of his situation and picked up a goalie and a hand full of players for each game and kept his chin up the whole weekend. We sense that he wants to have a better showing next year, so rumor has it he has already made reservations in Sisters for the 2015 All Star weekend. The High Desert League will offer to host the 2015 OHSLA All Star Game of Oregon, if the league will let us, and hope to have an even bigger event in June of 2015.
